Kelly Clarkson Goes Country On Jason Aldean’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay”

Oct 29th, 2010 // 17 Comments

Kelly Clarkson has already dipped her toe into country music, recording her hit ballad “Because Of You” as a duet with Reba McEntire (as well as teaming up with the country legend to perform a few of her songs, too). Looks like she developed a taste for it, as she guests on an emotional duet with crooner Jason Aldean on his track, “Don’t You Wanna Stay”, from his upcoming album, My Kinda Party. Jump below to listen to Clarkson’s vocals that should have Carrie Underwood shaking in her cowboy boots.

Kelly will be performing the song live with Jason during the 2010 Country Music Awards on November 10, and she’s already got a few more duets in the pipeline.

This girl can really sing anything, can’t she? We wouldn’t be surprised if she picks a country tune the next time she visits a karaoke bar, or even releases a country-pop album at some point.

  1. This is fan-freaking-tastic this is easily better than the work shes put out with those last two albums. She should really consider of a full album of country style pop cause it really suits her voice well. Carrie Underwood would really have to worry if she decided to.

I’m extremely impressed by this I have not enjoyed one of her songs so much since “Breakaway” so what if its not entirely her song, this is like a tease of what she could do with this genre and I love it.

Although there is no doubt that Kelly has amazing vocals, she is no threat to Carrie’s Country Superstar status.. There is just something in her voice that whatever she sings, the song sounds pop. Carrie, on the other hand, make songs sound very country.

Carrie, you don’t have to worry about anything!

I don’t think this should be a carrie vs. kelly conversation. both are incredible artists and vocalists. just enjoy the awesomeness of the song.

  5. Jay

    Agreed.

Kelly and Carrie are both great, independant artists. Carrie could drop the twang and do pop, and Kelly could add the twang and sing country… Bottom line: They both can sing and it validates that American Idol found some incredibly talented people!

Awesome vocals in this song, Kelly!

What a beautiful song. I just love it.
Kelly Clarkson has the best and most incredible voice in the music business. I’m glad that Jason picked her to be his partner on this song because they sound amazing together.

  7. Haley

p.s. You don’t need to have a “twang” to sing Country, Kelly just proved that and before her Tricia Yearwood proved it too.

I love this song! Kelly sounds absolutely gorgeous and Jason complements her very well. Yes, it’s true that I would listen to Kelly sing absolutely anything with her riveting voice. BTW, I know this is Idolator, but I wish we would stop all the comparisons between past Idol winners. They’ve won, they’ve moved on. We should too.

    • Oh, we know Carrie Underwood has nothing to worry about. We’re just having a bit of fun. There’s room in this music landscape for both Kelly and Carrie, even if Kelly did ever wind up recording a country album.

  9. Ahhh I FREAKING LOVE KELLY CLARKSON!!! (Hence the name of my website)!!!

This song is amazing and a sure fire hit!!! She can sing anything.

  10. I just wanted to say that in my personal opinion, I think that Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson did a wonderful job on singing a duet together on the song, “Don’t You Wanna Stay?” Their singing voices are the perfect mixture of Country and Pop music. This song is going to be on Jason’s new upcoming album, “My Kinda Party” and it will be released on November 2, 2010. I can’t wait to buy the album, and I hope that this song will also be on Kelly’s 5th. album that will be released next year in 2011 because it is such a beautiful song.

Oh you guys may be doing it in good fun. But the various fan bases sure can get super riled up over stuff like that. Peace out ya’ll.

  12. Marian

This is an awesome duet performed by 2 fantastic artists. Kelly’s vocals are out of the world and Jason sounds wonderful. Looking forward to their performance on the CMAs coming Nov 10th. Only 2 more days until Jason’s next album is released. Hope this duet is his next single and anxious to hear it on radio. !!!!!.
    WOW, Kelly can sing anything.

Well, the way I see it, there could be 3 things that happen at the CMA’s to end all of this Kelly vs. Carrie thing.

    1. Kelly locks Carrie in a closet and decides to co-host the show with the other host.

    2. Carrie use her powers and has Kelly kept out of the show.

    3. Kelly and Carrie knock out Jason and perform it together on the show.

There’s room for both in this world and, as far as I have ever heard and read, both of them are friends and support and like each other’s music.

  14. jason aldean is sexy as hell!!!

  15. anthony

why dont yall who think carrie underwood should be scared!!!!!! just shut your f**king faces. jason didnt just consider kelly he also considered carrie!!!! so shut the f**k up
