T-Pain Defends His Auto-Tuned Cover Of Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.”

We weren’t too thrilled with T-Pain’s robotically-enhanced take on Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.”, which he recorded for Quincy Jones’ tribute album Q: Soul Bossa Nostra. But turns out, T-Pain isn’t all too thrilled with us! Nor anyone else who disliked his cover: “If you don’t like what I do then stop listening to it.” It gets even angrier:

“For all the ppl that hate mr for ruining pyt just stop listening to my sh*t,” the artist tweeted Tuesday night. “But if Quincy jones tell you he want you to do something, no matter how much shot you know ur gonna get from the dumb asses in the world, you god damn do it.”

“I had the pleasure of meeting MJ and when I left his house I got a call from his lawyer telling mr that MJ wanted me to remake that song,” he continues. “So everybody that’s being overly disrespectful, you don’t have to like me at all, but you also can keep that bullshit to yourself.”

He concludes his statement with one last request: “Just stay off my timeline and my dick and get YO shit together.”

Read the whole rant here.

Well, when we wrote our impression of the track, we certainly did not know Michael Jackson had at some point asked T-Pain to record a cover of this particular song. And we suppose he’s right — if either Michael Jackson or Quincy Jones ask you to do something, you’re more than likely going to do it, so we can’t fault him for that.

But does this information make the song any more listenable? No. And we’re a little disappointed that T-Pain isn’t used to taking criticism by this point. Sorry, not every song you record can be as fun a ride as “Reverse Cowgirl“!
