Pet Shop Boys Take In A Dance-Off In Their “Together” Video

The music video for new Pet Shop Boys single “Together” is actually quite light on Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe themselves, but presents a fairly entertaining and amazingly choreographed boy-from-the-other-side-of-the-tracks-meets-girl storyline—or does it? Watch below. Shot by Peeter Rebane around Tallinn, Estonia, “Together” shows us a young hard labor worker in the dreary, bleak-looking streets outside a dance academy, where a set of female dancers are taking up classic training.

Our youthful scruff gathers up his street pals and infiltrates the girls’ studio, where they engage in a dance-off. Soon they all pair off and put on an energetic stage show for the locals.

Of course, there turns out to be a typical Pet Shop Boys twist at the end when we realize our hero has been daydreaming about the whole scenario, and thus grimly turns away from the camera and carries on with his work in the street outside.

Major props to the Boys for this clip, which manages to pack both style and a last-minute emotional sucker punch. (Hey—it’s more than we got from Step Up.)

“Together” appears on the duo’s new hits collection Ultimate, which is out now in Europe and will be released in the U.S. in early 2011.
