When Adele paid a recent visit to Idolator, the British songstress described “Rolling In The Deep”, the lead single from her sophomore album, 21, as a “gospel disco” revenge song. “I am very different from who I was when I was crumbling before on the first record,” she told us, adding that the track’s sound was inspired by rockabilly artist Wanda Jackson. Take the jump to hear Adele mature on her latest tune, set to beautiful footage of her recording 21 in Malibu.

Produced by Paul Epworth (who added a similarly wistful but soulful touch to Cee Lo Green’s cover of “No One’s Gonna Love You”, originally by Band Of Horses), the song revolves around Adele’s familiar wail but surely shows how she has grown.

Be on the lookout for the single’s official video, which will feature “strong images of a female warrior performing a contemporary dance.”
