Lupe Fiasco schooled Soulja Boy with the diss response track “S.L.R.“, but now the rapper is setting aside that beef for the moment and taking it down a notch with the glistening, melodic tune, “Never Forget You”, featuring John Legend’s soulful vocals on the hook. Listen below!

John Legend — Never Forget You” dl=”0″] The track kicks in with John Legend’s gorgeous voice singing, “Take me to all that we had, all the good and the bad / I’ll never forget you, I’ll never let you go,” before a tinkling piano kicks in. Lupe chimes in, rapping about how far he’s come from humble beginnings, but chooses to still hold tight to his past experiences “not to relive them, just to remind us.” “Never Forget you” will supposedly be placed on Lupe’s forthcoming album, Lasers, due March 2011. Hopefully. If it does, we (and especially Lupe) can thank Atlantic Records President Julie Greenwald. Says the rapper (via Baltimore Sun):

“We had a meeting with all of the superpowers at Atlantic Records. Julie Greenwald was like, ‘Listen, shut the f— up. We need to put this album out. What do we need to do to put the egos aside? You want this album to come out. We want this album to come out. Let’s put this album out.’ It really took her coming in and being the advocacy on an artist’s side as well as being able to respectfully articulate the corporate side. … All credit goes to Julie Greenwald coming in as the mediator.”

Thanks, Julie!
