Miley Cyrus, who’s endured a couple of difficult weeks since her parents ended their 17-year marriage, will perform the sappy-but-perhaps-apt “Forgiveness And Love” on the American Music Awards tonight, according to early reports on the show. She may not have drawn many nominations, but there’s a strong chance she’ll come away with one of the night’s most talked about performances. Hear the bluesy tune below.

Though the “Forgiveness And Love” lyrics come off as “so unbelievably saccharine that Hallmark would ultimately have to turn them down”, it does signal that she’s at least willing to tackle more grown-up subject matter. “Forgiveness” has always seemed intended as a successor to “The Climb”, and it certainly comes as a relief from Miley’s odd-and-occasionally awkward shift to racy dance jams (“Who Owns My Heart”, “Can’t Be Tamed”).
If Miley is still searching for a hit, is this it?
