2011 Grammy Nominees Predictions And Wish List

The 2011 Grammy Awards nominations will be announced tomorrow night during The Grammy Nominations Concert Live telecast from L.A.’s Club Nokia, which will also feature performances by Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and the one and only Bieber. But before the National Academy Of Recording Arts And Sciences makes it official, we thought it was only fair to weigh in – who will nab a nomination? Who will be totally snubbed? And does Antoine Dodson’s “Bed Intruder Song” have any chance of scoring some Grammy glory? Head below to see our predictions for who’s (probably) going to make the ballot for Best New Artist, as well as Album, Song and Record Of The Year.

Album Of The Year predictions: Eminem, Recovery Lady Antebellum, Need You Now Lady Gaga, The Fame Monster James Taylor and Carole King, Live at the Troubadour Sade, Soldier of Love

WHAT SHOULD BE NOMINATED: We doubt the Grammy committee nominating more than one rap album for Album of the Year, though several were definitely worthy of the honor – Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 awarded Hova his first #1 hit on the Hot 100 with “Empire State Of Mind”, and was another step up in the media mogul’s illustrious career. We give the edge toward Eminem scoring the nom, as he’s the more relevant, talked-about rapper at the moment, and a Best Album win is validation for the time he spent away working on his own personal recovery. Still, Jay put out solid release and shouldn’t be ignored just because of overlapping the same genre as Em.

Song Of The Year predictions: Eminem feat. Rihanna, “Love the Way You Lie” Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys, “Empire State Of Mind” Lady Antebellum, “Need You Now” Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance” Train, “Hey, Soul Sister”

WHAT SHOULD BE NOMINATED: Two buzz-y tunes that didn’t quite get the mainstream radio love they deserved this past year were Cee Lo Green’s Motown-esque “Fuck You” and Florence + The Machine’s rousing pop-rock jam “Dog Days Are Over.” Okay, sure—Cee Lo finally cracked the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 last week, thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow crooning the tame “Forget You” version of the song on Glee a couple episodes back. And Florence wrangled some decent exposure on these shores at this year’s MTV VMAs. But if each song only got half the spins summer hits like “Airplanes” and “Billionaire” did, the airwaves would be much more diverse.

Record Of The Year predictions: Eminem feat. Rihanna, “Love the Way You Lie” Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys, “Empire State Of Mind” Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance” Katy Perry, “Teenage Dream” Usher feat. Will.i.am, “OMG” WHAT SHOULD BE NOMINATED: Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” benefited her two U.S. tours in 2010, the announcement of a third jaunt across America in the spring, Body Talk Pt. 2 becoming her highest charting album (stateside), and various TV appearances—from the Late Show With David Letterman to Gossip Girl. Alas, “Dancing On My Own” never even dented the Hot 100, despite all the work the pixie-haired Swedish pop diva put in, so the chances of it being nominated for Song of the Year are nil. Sigh. If only we were in charge of the Grammys…

(But if Robyn is too left of center, why not a nod for Adam Lambert’s Max Martin/Shellback/Pink-penned “Whataya Want From Me”?)

Best New Artist predictions Justin Bieber Florence + the Machine Janelle Monae Bruno Mars Nicki Minaj

WHO SHOULD BE NOMINATED: This is by far the toughest category to whittle down to five nominees. There were tons of eligible new artists that sprung up this year, all worthy of being among the five – Kid Cudi, B.o.B, Ke$ha (hey, the girl has 5 Top 10 hits), Drake, and Adam Lambert. And as much as we love each and every one of those artists in that eclectic mix, let’s give it up to Susan Boyle. The woman came out of nowhere and outsold everybody (not named Taylor Swift). The success of The Gift, her follow up to her debut album I Dreamed A Dream, proves that she’s no one-hit wonder, either. We’re pretty sure she’ll be recording Christmas-timed albums (and selling them like gangbusters) for a long, long time to come.

Check back tomorrow evening for the official list of Grammy nominees.
