Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t the only member of the Paltrow-Martin family to make the holiday season more musical — Coldplay released a new Xmas single as a digital download, “Christmas Lights”, and the song’s video was (seemingly) shot in one take. But that’s not the most interesting part — we’d say the Elvis string quartet floating in the background nabs that honor. Get in the holiday spirit and watch below.

Coldplay — “Christmas Lights”

The video was filmed in London and was shot by Mat Whitecross. It’s definitely a lot more whimsical than the song itself — lyrics include lines like “Christmas night, another fight / Tears we cried aflood / Got all kinds of poisoning / I’ve poison in my blood.” Uh, happy holidays?

Check out a brief Making Of, which doesn’t really explain how they got such complicated shot — but it’s still pretty nice to see Coldplay and the rest of the crew have a good time while filming the video:

Now where can we expect Glee‘s version of “The Scientist” next? Hope they save that one for Holly Holiday’s inevitable return.
