Mariah Carey Sings For President Obama On “Christmas In Washington” Special

If all the First Family wanted for Christmas were some carols sung by the pros, they were in luck this year. Annie Lennox, Maxwell, Glee’s Matthew Morrison, and Miranda Cosgrove joined the season’s superstar, Mariah Carey, in presenting the Obamas with the gift of song at the “Christmas In Washington” concert, which aired last night on TNT. And while she wasn’t exactly bursting with diva fireworks the way she does in her new “Auld Lang Syne” video, those who find Mimi’s ditties every bit as important to the Christmas tradition as egg nog and mistletoe are sure to be in good cheer upon viewing Mariah’s performances of “One Child” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Click here to see the vids.

Wearing a billowy red dress adorned with a bow, the preggers songbird looked every bit like a big holiday gift herself – though beau Nick Cannon already spilled the beans on what’s inside (twins!). Rather than perform the modern yuletide staple “All I Want for Christmas (Is You)” or her newest boppy Christmas single “Oh Santa”, Mariah chose a couple more subdued and graceful tracks from her recent holiday offering Merry Christmas II You, backed by a choir on both numbers.

Naturally, Mimi sounded angelic as ever — even without mom Patricia to back her up on “O Come All Ye Faithful” like she did on the ABC special. By this time next year, of course, the Obama family and the Cannon-Carey family will be the same in number. Will one of those new stockings be for “Cleophis”?
