Keri Hilson Hooks J. Cole For “Buyou”

Apparently, we weren’t the only ones not feeling Lil’ Kim’s guest spot on Keri Hilson’s “Buyou” — the track has undergone a guest-rapper sex change, now featuring J. Cole in the passenger seat. In this cut from No Boys Allowed (due Dec. 21), Miss Keri isn’t singing about a marshy body of water and spelling it poorly. Naturally, it’s a play on words, with Hilson bemoaning the man in her life draining her of all those hard-earned Benjamins. Take a listen to the revamped, Kim-less “Buyou” here.

“Used to take me to dinner, used to take me shopping / Now you’re asking me for my paper / It’s my money,” the “Pretty Girl Rock”-er sings on the redone version, apparently not big on returning the favor. At least now we get some insight into why Hilson is so bent on restricting the dudes from her forthcoming album — they want her money!

Cole’s rap a few points for sounding less sleepy and phoned-in than Lil Kim’s, but overall this doesn’t change our misgivings about “Buyou” as a single. As girl-power anthems go, this offers nothing new. Yes, women can make their own incomes, and yes, men are probably better off not asking for financial favors. Certainly the immodest diva has every right to spend her cash as she sees fit, but is it wise to drop such a money-grubbing track in late December, right smack in the middle of the season of giving? Surely the raunchy, take-charge lady from the “Way You Love Me” video has at least a few bones to spare.

If Keri’s really looking for a significant other who won’t drain her bank account, at least she has other options: both George Lopez and Chelsea Handler are financially independent, not toys, and totally into her.

What about you? Are you buying “Buyou” any more now that J. Cole is featured?
