Eminem And Lil Wayne Dominate ‘SNL’
As Saturday Night Live guest spots go, it doesn’t get much more ferocious than this: Lil Wayne and Eminem teamed up last night to make sure SNL ended 2010 with a bang for the last new episode before the new year. Not only did this high-wattage duo expertly perform “No Love”, their 90’s-dance-sampling collaboration from Em’s Recovery, but each of the rap megastars also got a chance to wow us solo. Watch Em and Weezy take on “No Love” and their individual hits after the jump.
The SNL appearance marked the first time Eminem and Lil Wayne have performed “No Love” together, and the duo didn’t disappoint. Both rappers more than held their own despite their different vibes and styles — rather than just spit individual verses, the track features a lot of interaction, which is all the more evident in a live performance. Unlike some more arbitrary hip-hop pairings, there’s a true sense of collaboration between the artists here – even if iTunes’ Artist Of The Year clearly dominates the latter half of the song.
Eminem & Lil Wayne, “No Love”:
For the second number, first Em performed a rousing, Pink-free version of Recovery track “Won’t Back Down”, proving once again what a dynamic and energetic live performer he is on this exceptionally angry tune (even by Slim Shady standards).
Then the cinematic southpaw handed the reigns over to Wayne, whose “6 Foot 7 Foot” follows “No Love” in using a potentially cheesy sample to expert effect. It may have been a slightly more grounded performance than his rooftop rendition of the tune, but the Bamboozle headliner (who, true to his name, is considerably less than 6 feet tall, let alone 7) definitely proved the single’s #1-worthiness on iTunes. The title of their collaboration notwithstanding, clearly the SNL audience had plenty of love for Eminem and Lil Wayne’s guest spot, and so do we.
