Willow Smith To Whip Up “Parents Just Don’t Understand” Remake?

Willow Smith is about own 2011. The new year will bring the “Whip My Hair” singer’s debut album, opening for Justin Bieber on his European tour and now, a potential remake of her father’s 1988 Grammy hit “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. The pint-sized diva told Yahoo! Music, “There’s a possibility that I will…it’s a really great song.” What’s next, a Fresh Princess Of Bel Aire sitcom? (Ed note: we would totally watch that!) Jump below to catch Willow’s full interview as well as a behind the scenes look at the hit maker’s London Sunday Times photo shoot.

We love Willow’s words of wisdom, “I have the motto that says: ‘Whatever you see in your closet that you like….pick it and wear it.’ It’s not just your closet, but it’s with your life. Whatever catches your eye…check it out. If you want to jump over a log, jump over a log.” With that kind of insight at just 10-years-old, we think the pop star could be the next Oprah by the time she’s 16.

As for remaking her dad’s hit, the message “Parents Just Don’t Understand” might be timeless, but the lyrics aren’t. Rhymes like “I asked for Adidas and she bought me Zips!” and “This isn’t Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I’m not Bowzer” are going to require some major updating. And as for the Will’s verse about taking the keys to his parents Porsche, picking up a “girlie girl” and ultimately winding up in jail will most likely get a Kidz Bop-esque makeover as well. Do you think sanitizing the lyrics take some of the fun out of “Parents Just Don’t Understand”?

Watching this shoot made us wonder, is there anyone on planet Earth having a better time living life than Willow—except for maybe this little girl performing to “Whip My Hair” while on ice skates?
