To stir up excitement ahead of the release of Britney Spears’ new single “Hold It Against Me”, actor Stephen Dorff—who, let’s face it, has yet to make a movie as classy as The Gate—sat down with MTV News to discuss Brit’s 2004 David LaChapelle-directed video for “Everytime”, which he co-starred in as the pop queen’s detached Hollywood boyfriend. Well, alright—he probably actually sat down to discuss his new movie Somewhere, but got wrangled into doing this in the process. Watch below.

Biggest revelation: the bathtub scene at the end, when Dorff jumps into the water shirtless, with his jeans on. “That was my idea. I knew I had to save her in the bathtub, but it was my idea to go in with the shoes and the jeans and just kind of find her. First they had me change into my boxers. I was like, ‘I don’t think he has time. She’s dying.’ So I just go in.”

“Everytime”, which was co-written by Britney, was the third single off her album In The Zone. It peaked on the Hot 100 chart at #15.

Sadly, Dorff sheds no light on the eternal mystery of why “every time” is written as one word in the song’s title.
