Justin Bieber was interviewed by Vanity Fair‘s Lisa Robinson (check out the retro-inspired photo shoot here) and the only thing the teen phenom is better at than crooning, swooning and hoarding shoes is providing entertaining sound bites. But it’s not just Bieb delivering some classy quotes — many come from the other members of Team Bieber: his mom, his grandpa, and his mentor and BFF Usher. Jump below to find out why Justin believes he’s not normal, and how much Will Smith is affecting his personal life.

7 CLASSY QUOTES FROM JUSTIN BIEBER’S VANITY FAIR INTERVIEW

** Justin on thinking of himself as weird: “I’m not normal. I think differently—my mind is always racing. I’m just … nuts. But I think the best [musicians] probably are.”

** Justin on why he loves Michael Jackson: “He was so broad, everybody loved him, and that’s what my goal is—to basically make people happy, to inspire them, and to have everyone root for me.”

**On Justin’s reading habits: “[Justin] hated school, is tutored on the road, doesn’t read much, but has the best-seller Rich Dad Poor Dad on his tour bus because Will Smith told him to read it.”

** Usher, on bringing Justin to Island/Def Jam exec L.A. Reid for the first time: “I knew what L.A. was gonna do—the same thing he did to me. Let’s bring in employees and we want to see how he reacts to women.”

** Justin on rating his own attractiveness: “Not trying to be arrogant, but if I walked down the street and a girl saw me, she might take a look back because maybe I’m good-looking, right?”

** Robinson also talked to Pattie Mallette, Justin’s mom, who clearly holds her son in high esteem: “After a personal encounter with God, [Mallette] believes that she and Justin have been put on earth to bring light and inspiration to the world.”

** Justin’s grandfather on his grandson’s success: “He was supposed to be a hockey player.”

And we bet if he did become one, he’d be the smoothest, most adorable pee-wee hockey player on ice ever (eventually marrying a blonde pop star, of course).

Keeping pounding, girls! You’re only a few layers of glass away from devouring your swoopy-haired idol!
