Lupe Fiasco’s long-delayed Lasers is finally due to drop March 8, and it appears that it will all be worth the wait. The album’s second single, “Words I Never Said”, features Skylar Grey on the hook, and was produced by epic-song-maestro Alex Da Kid. The thought-provoking song discusses some heavy subject matter as the war on terror and the economy, and offers some harsh critiques of both President Obama and Glenn Beck. Nothing like a pop song to get you horribly depressed about the state of our society! Listen below.

Lupe Fiasco feat. Skylar Grey – “Words I Never Said”

“It’s so loud inside my head with words that I should have said,” sings Skylar. “As I drown in my regrets, I can’t take back the words I never said.”

“Crooked banks around the world would gladly give a loan away / cause if you ever miss a payment they can take your home away,” sadly raps Lupe on the world-weary track.

Alex Da Kid certainly knows how to take depressing subject matter, put it to a uptempo beat, add a forlorn-sounding female singer on the hook, and make a giant hit. Just look at T.I.’s “Castle Walls”, B.o.B’s “Airplanes” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie.” It’d be nice to see if he can stretch his producing muscle and give us something more fun than forlorn, but hey, if it ain’t broke! (And no, Nicki Minaj’s “Massive Attack” doesn’t count, cause we always frown when we hear it.)
