Whatcha Say: The Good, The Bad & The S&M In This Week’s Reader Comments
Over the past week, Rihanna debuted her “S&M” music video, which proved to be too hot for viewing in some countries. Meanwhile, Britney Spears unveiled her Femme Fatale album cover, Brandy popped up on a new Timbaland track and Chris Brown showed that he isn’t slowing down his own musical output. Head below to see how our readers processed all this pop pandemonium.
:: It’s Me picked up on our comparison of the themes in “S&M” to those in Madonna’s “Human Nature”: “I loved Human Nature video from Madonna, that was definitely one of my favorite songs and videos from Madonna. Madonna did recieve loads of negative press (she brought it on herself though) and was far more ‘outrageous’ than Rihanna is, so I understand Madonna’s middle finger to the media, etc. Rihanna gets negative comments on certain blog sites but generally the press views her as pretty non- threatening.”
:: JME†, on the other hand, thought it could use a little more $: “They could have photoshopped her better she still looks kinda warped…. I’ve seen better britney covers… KE$HA is numba #1!!!!!!!!! Britney be looking $LEAZY”
:: Brandon Hall didn’t see the beauty in Chris Brown’s “Beautiful People” Single Cover Is A Real Gas: “Well… its exactly what you expect to hear on the radio right now, nothing at all striking, completely mediocre, 100% Chris Brown.”
:: ZMH drummed up some enthusiasm for Brandy Gives Timbaland Some Extra Kick On “808”: “brandy is one of those few can steal the thunder from timbo’s beats. it’s unbelievable how she manges to layer her vocals into harmony like that. nobody can get even close to what brandy does.”
:: Meanwhile, The Rebellious Nerd had a different point of view: “LOL this video is not that controversial. Lady Gaga’s Telephone, Alejandro, and Bad Romance videos had a lot of sex controversy but they weren’t banned. I think the media has a hypocritical treatment of sex. They glamorize things like Jersey Shore, MTV: 16 and Pregnant, and skins but at the slight mention of something involving S&M or BDSM, society believes it’s too scary because they don’t want their private sex lives and actions exposed in real life.”
