Academy Awards Auto Tune Segment: The Only Good Bit On Oscar Night?

Let’s just come out and say it—last night’s 83rd Academy Awards telecast was about as enjoyable as gargling with turpentine. From uncharismatic co-host James Franco to the snub of Corey Haim during the “in memoriam” segment, Oscar night was a total bust. (But at least Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez seemed to have a good time!) If we had to sift through the dreck and pick one bright moment, however, it would probably be the bit where several nominated movies—and Razzie winner Twilight: Eclipse—got Auto-Tuned in a semi-funny video montage. Consider it the lesser of the snooze-inducing evils. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Toy Story 3, The Social Network and Twilight: Eclipse all got the T-Pain/Akon treatment in the uneven clip, that was at times comical and at times just plain silly.

We can just picture the producers of the show marveling at this brand new invention called Auto Tune, and fantasizing about how it will really bring in the younger viewer demographic.

Unfortunately for the network, Entertainment Weekly reports that the ratings for last night’s Oscars sank from those of the year before.
