Mateo Takes On The “Power” Of Kanye West

Kanye West is no stranger to remixes — witness his (often detrimental) intrusion on tracks by Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and La Roux, to name a few. However, he’s not usually on the receiving end of the tinkering. Now Mateo — who previously premiered another reworking of a high-profile tune on Idolator, “Empire State of Mind (Part 3)” — has taken ‘Ye’s “Power” and given it a slightly more subdued, R&B-flavored treatment, while still retaining the tune’s soulful, um, power. Hear Mateo’s “Power” featuring Pusha T and Ab Liva below.

It certainly bodes well for Mateo’s forthcoming mixtape Love & Stadiums, for which the Kerry “Krucial” Brothers-produced “Power” is the first single. Not many artists could get away with taking on He of the Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasies, but having heard Mateo’s effort, we say more power to him.
