‘American Idol’ Power List: Scotty McCreery Playing Catch Up

Apr 8th, 2011 // 8 Comments

If Pia Toscano hadn’t been eliminated last night on American Idol, the raven-haired balladeer would have continued to be in first place on our Idol Power List with 43 points (44, with one point deducted for being in the Bottom Three). You can leave with your head held high, Ms. Toscano! So, who usurped Pia’s crown to become the top contestant of Season 10? Find out below!

During Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame night, Hayley Reinhart pulled herself up by her Gwen Stefani-styled bootstraps and gave our favorite performance of the night, garnering her 8 points. Scotty McCreery (7) was able to sing an Elvis song without doing an impersonation of The King, and Casey Abrams (6) brought his bass back out for another excellent performance. (Seriously, though, we want to see that melodica again!)

Paul McDonald (5) and Lauren Alaina (4) were good, but not great, and though Jacob Lusk (3) esteemed that he would not end up in the Bottom Three unless America was not willing to look itself in the mirror, it appears the U.S. saw its reflection just fine. Jacob gets deducted one whole point for being the contestant with the third lowest number of votes, leaving him with 2.

And it’s a good thing for James Durbin that he’s done pretty well in the previous weeks, because his lack of rockin’ and rollin’ left him with only 2 points as well. And Stefano Langone? His sole point is reduced to nil for being in Bottom Three.

Scotty is only five points away from James — if he gives another great performance next week while James delivers another disappointing one, we think the country crooner could be the one to beat. Weird, huh?

are you people retarded? scotty? the dude who threw the fat kid under the bus? the dude who sounds like a million other country singers? the dude with all the elvis facial affectations? seriously, are you retarded?

  2. Are you guys serious? Scotty? For f**ks sake c’mon! What the hell kind of criteria are you going by cause this guy is the most bland contestant that has been on the show in some time.

This is crazy, I’m about two seconds away from being done with this season. Bring on “The Voice” NBC!

    • The most bland? I definitely wouldn’t say that. He’s got personality and he’s memorable, which is more than I can stay for Stefano or many of the other contestants that have been voted off. (Even Pia – as much as I liked her, I knew nothing about her other than she sang pretty ballads and looked pretty.) As far as the world on Idol goes, though, he really can deliver excellent performances. I can see him succeeding as a country singer. As anything else, no way, but he may have the best voice for country to come out of this competition – besides Carrie Underwood, of course.

  3. The only way to register my disgust with the voting public over the loss of Pia is to quite watching: which we have decided to do. We will buy Pia’s albums as soon as they come out! She has fans in this house forever!

Scotty is going to win this thing. Book it stamp it and save it.

scotty will go all the way

  6. Pia was not my favorite nor a fav of most I know she was somewhere in the middle. People thought she had a great voice but not the connection or charisma as some of the others. It takes more than a great voice to get people to come and watch a concert or buy a record. She just didn’t connect….Scotty is young and has already learned to connect and so has Durbin. I wished Casey would have gone and not been saved and maybe the judges wished they could have a do over since they made such a display of it when Pia was named which I am sure made Steffano and others feel bad. I believe All the ones that they originally saved have gone home but Steffano and of course the one save they had on the top ten went to Casey. The strongest are Durbin, Scotty and Haley is improving the most each week. Liked Lauren’s personality at try-outs would love to see that come back.

  7. Mike

I think they all suck, Pia was the only reason to watch. So i have decided to stop watching!!!
