12 Pop Stars Tweet About The Death Of Osama Bin Laden

May 2nd, 2011 // 8 Comments

Reports say U.S. forces shot and killed Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, on Monday in Abbottland, Pakistan. (CNN notes that DNA matching is under way on samples from the body.) “A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability,” President Obama said while addressing the nation last night. “After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.”

Naturally there are many questions, there’s much celebration and a certain amount of symbolism, given that we’re just four months shy of the tenth anniversary of the crippling attacks on American soil. And Twitter, of course, blew up last night. Head below to read tweets from 12 different pop stars, which reveal varying perspectives about this historic event.

Lady Gaga: “Just landed. Watching CNN, what a historical moment in the fight against hatred.”

Hayley Williams: “#nowplaying ‘Party In The USA’ – Miley Cyrus”

Rihanna: “Obama Bama Bama…sry I meant, oh Mama Mama Mama, I just shot a man down #brrrap”

Lily Allen: “I know that Osama Bin Laden is dead, but if we could all stop for a minute to consider todays REAL news I’d very much appreciate it… It is my birthday, I am 26.”

    ∙∙∙{✓ Saddam Hussein ✓ Osama Bin Laden ☐ Lady Gaga}

  2. Of course Lady Gaga was tweeting about her track listing and Judas video premiere well into the news coverage and caught a lot of flack for it. THEN the “just landed” tweet appeared, and they deleted the promotional tweets. Keepin’ it classy!

  3. Lucifyte

    I feel as if Rihanna made the most eloquent of statements, and therefore I get behind her sentiment. #brrrap

  4. scott3315

    I’m all for Adam’s tweet, though Gaga makes a great point. One less hater in the world.

  5. It’s strangely predictable that a lot of the enjoying Bin Laden’s death also are so delusional as to be stating such things as, “America is the freest country on earth.” Cost of 9/11? Hundreds of thousand tops. Cost of seeking out Bin Laden? We’re bankrupt. Which was his official goal. In death, he is even now victorious.

  6. lol. That was eloquent? They must have changed the meaning of that word recently.

  7. Shirley, this can’t be from a representative of the religion of peace, can it?.
