Jennifer Hudson Covers Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” On ‘Jimmy Fallon’

May 12th, 2011 // 4 Comments

It’s Bob Marley tribute week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, featuring such a diverse and unexpected roster of guests as Keith Richards, Chris Cornell, Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill, and Jakob Dylan. NYC visitor Jennifer Hudson also got in on the island-flavored fun last night, delivering a heartfelt rendition of the legendary Rastafarian’s “No Woman, No Cry.” Backed by the Roots, Good Morning America’s summertime performer even invoked the spirit of the “I Shot The Sheriff” singer with a slight Jamaican accent and some in-character hand motions. Check out the appearance below.

Surely “No Woman” can pay tribute to Bob Marley quite like J-Hud, right?

  1. Bob Marley has influenced the entire world with his music, which will live on to be rediscovered by more and more generations to come. His work has affected my life and my art so much. I paid tribute to him with a surreal and psychedelic portrait inspired by his words. You can see it on my artist’s blog at

  2. This is one very talented young lady. OMG! Jen Hudson can sing any song. Is there any other female artist in the business today more talented. I don’t mean booty shaking and entertainer. I am speaking of a great vocalist. Jhud is both amazing and incredible!!! Love her.

There’s nothing lost in translation, Sista Gurl.
You sing this with authenticity! – like yu been drinkin’ cornmeal porridge all your life.
JHud you nailed the “goverment yaad”/”projects” vibe!
This is the perfect Bob Marley song for you ’cause you have the voice and sensibility for it.

    Do the hook-up.
Make a full recording, no ‘man ?

  4. Jack

Oh Jennifer – you are simply amazing.
