What ever have we here? One of our favorite longstanding British duos, Goldfrapp, reworked Lady Gaga’s single “Judas” for the remix EP that was just added to iTunes. But one of our favorite freshman British duos, Hurts, also took a crack at the naughty religious pop jam! How are we supposed to take sides? Our heads are spinning, holy fools that we are. Listen to them both after the jump!
First we have Goldfrapp’s mix, which basically sounds like they slapped a vinyl 45 of “Judas” on a turntable and played it at 33⅓ . Well, okay — the ‘frapp did layer on a few chords and added some spooky samples over top. And the beat kind of sounds like that of Nine Inch Nails’ explicit classic “Closer.”

Next, we go from dark and dirge-y to, uh, dark and dirge-y with a bright chorus! Hurts also slow “Judas” down for their mix, but throw some rays of light into the plodding electro track in the form of a few hopeful-sounding synths on the chorus.
We’re probably leaning toward the Hurts remix ourselves. There’s something kind of urgent and all Gaga-angsty about the whole affair. Plus, those Spanish guitar riffs come out of nowhere, but cap the song off perfectly.
Are you liking what Goldfrapp and Hurts did with “Judas”? Who do you think did the better job of remixing Lady Gaga’s single?
