Coldplay are feeling decidedly weepy these days, but that’s good news for fans of the UK quartet. Will Champion, drummer for the Austin City Limits-headlining act, announced on the official Coldplay site today that a new song titled “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” will be released digitally this week. “We’re about to play a bunch of summer festivals so it’s as good a time as any to put out a new song,” Champion wrote. “‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’ will be available digitally on Friday 3rd June at 12pm (BST), except in the UK where it’ll come out on the stroke of midnight between Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June.”

This will mark the first new Coldplay single since their 2010 holiday offering “Christmas Lights”, of which we noted, “The video was filmed in London and was shot by Mat Whitecross. It’s definitely a lot more whimsical than the song itself…” Er, we meant that with love, lads!

The band topped charts around the world in 2008 with summer jam “Viva La Vida,” off their fourth LP Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.
