Team Christina Aguilera Rocks ‘The Voice’ With “Lady Marmalade”

Team Christina Aguilera faced off against Team Blake Shelton on last night’s episode of The Voice. It was the first week where the hit NBC series went live, and the contestants now face being eliminated via viewers’ votes —or lack thereof. There were a few standout performances from the entire two hours, and let’s just say the top one came when Xtina and her crew of ladies mopped up the stage with a searing rendition of “Lady Marmalade.” Watch the fireworks below! First off, coaches Xtina, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton followed up their premiere episode performance of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” by treating viewers to a Queen medley.

Christina’s four team members took turns on Tuesday night trying to show America that they’ve got the vocal chops to be recording artists. Raquel Castro kicked things off with a so-so performance of Ke$ha’s current hit “Blow.” We’ll give her props for the choreography, but the singing was a bit all over the place.

Likewise, Lily Elise didn’t really add much of a personal touch to Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and Frenchie Davis offered up an adequate take on David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s dance jam “When Love Takes Over.” Even powerhouse Beverly McClellan seemed to be lacking her usual shine while belting out Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m The Only One.” (Granted, she was suffering from a cold.)

But despite the collective ho-hum of all four ladies’ solo performances, they blew the roof off the place when they joined coach Xtina for a joint assault with the hit Moulin Rouge version of “Lady Marmalade.”

It was a tough act to follow, but Blake Shelton did so by assembling his team — that would be Jared Blake, Xenia, Dia Frampton and Patrick Thomas — on stage with him for a stab at Maroon 5’s “This Love.” And thus the Blake-Adam Levine bromance continues…

When they performed separately, the main standout from Shelton’s group of four aspiring hit-makers wound up being Dia Frampton, who sat at a piano and knocked out a completely refreshing version of Kanye West’s “Heartless.” Dia’s bewitching performance proved to be the highlight of all eight singers’ individual attempts last night.

Both Christina and Blake will lose two team members next week. If we had to go by performance alone (and not popularity or quirky voter habits, which we know all too well by now thanks to American Idol), we’d say Aguilera will lose Lily And Raquel, while Blake probably stands to see too-shy Xenia and rocker Jared Blake axed.

Who do you think will be going home next Tuesday night? Let us know below!
