With eight semi-finalists standing at the beginning of Wednesday’s The Voice results show, we sadly knew four would fall by the end of the night. We can’t say we were too surprised when all was said and done. (Were you?) Head below to watch the contestants do a George Michael medley, see coach Cee Lo Green sing “Bright Lights Bigger City” and find out just went down on the very first Voice results show. The evening kicked off with the remaining eight semi-finalists — two each from Teams Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — belting out a medley of George Michael’s hits “Freedom ’90” and “Faith.”

Though it was reminiscent of the cheesy group numbers that often plague American Idol, these types of performances serve one purpose — to highlight those still in the game who have the vocal chops to keep going.

So as the night continued, we found out exactly who the final four are. And if you read our recap of Tuesday night’s episode, where we predicted who’d make it through to next week, you weren’t surprised at last night’s results.

Cee Lo gave a slight edge to Nakia when he doled out 51 points to the Austin, Texas crooner and gave 49 points to Vicci Martinez. However, once viewers’ votes were tallied up and factored into the Voice equation, it was Vicci who wound up with the highest score. Awww. Bye, Nakia! Let’s just hope this doesn’t mean he has to finally get a real job now.

Adam was the only coach who had the balls to rate his team members the way he saw them: Javier Colon got a score of 65 from the Maroon 5 frontman while Casey Weston only nabbed 35. (Did you catch her face drop when this was announced?) America also sided with Javier, which, again, was no surprise.

Both Blake and Christina Aguilera took the easy way out and gave their team members — Xenia and Dia Frampton for Shelton and Frenchie Davis and Beverly McClellan for Xtina — 50 points each. Softies! But as we guessed, Dia and Beverly were triumphant once viewers weighed in.

So there you have it — we’re set for a Vicci, Javier, Dia and Beverly showdown next week. And while you ponder just who might clinch the title of having The Voice, take into consideration that contestant song downloads from iTunes from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning count as votes after each performance. A quick look at the digital download store today reveals that Dia Frampton’s “Losing My Religion” is #9 currently while Javier Colon’s “Fix You” is #10. A bit further down, Vicci Martinez’s “Dog Days Are Over” is #15 while Beverly McClellan’s “The Thrill Is Gone” is, um, #68.

Anyway, here’s Cee Lo singing “Bright Lights Bigger City” from last night’s show:
