‘The Voice’: Which Contestant Has The Best Original Song?

Last night the four semi-finalists from The Voice took to the stage for the last performance round of Season 1. And in addition to partnering up with their respective coaches for duets, contestants Javier Colon, Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez and Beverly McClellan all performed original songs, which are now on iTunes (the downloads counted as votes toward tonight’s finale for that particular artist). Head below to hear the studio version of each tune, and let us know who you think wound up with the best one.

First up we have Javier Colon, from Team Adam Levine. His original tune is “Stitch By Stitch,” and comes courtesy of hit-making producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. (And that intro — holy “I Want It That Way”!) It’s currently #3 on iTunes.

Next is Dia Frampton, who’s given her own unique twist to hits by Kanye West and R.E.M. in previous episodes of The Voice. Can she make her original tune “Inventing Shadows,” which was written by Fraser T. Smith (Adele, Britney Spears) and Josh Kear (Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood) a smash? It appears so — it’s already #1 on iTunes!

Vicci Martinez was given the track “Afraid To Sleep” by pop-rock producer Butch Walker, who’s worked with Avril Lavigne, Pink and Katy Perry in the past. This power ballad has Vicci at #14 on iTunes at the moment.

Beverly McClellan was handed the rowdy jam “Lovesick” by producer Bill Appleberry, who has twiddled the knobs on tracks for rockers The Wallflowers and Adema. Beverly is currently trailing her Voice-mates at #35 on iTunes.

Do you know who produced Dia”s song? I think I remember from the show they said he/she worked for Keane and Adele in the past. If so, I”m wondering whether that producer has an affinity for song titles with an active verb followed by a plural noun, i.e. “Chasing pavements”, “Turning tables”, and now “Inventing shadows”.

Grammar nerdy aside, I have been rooting for Beverly McClellan the entire time, because I think her voice has more maturity than the other three. She”s not going to win at this point, but I”m okay with Dia winning.

Catherine, it was co-written by Fraser T. Smith (the Adele/Keane connection) and Josh Kear (who worked on Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” and Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”). Added that above!

    This is so unfair!

Dia and her sister came out with a couple of songs a while back that are really good. Listen to Monsters and also Roses…both really good songs.

Dia– the sound of her quick breath before singing threw me totally off. loved the song but not the singer.

Javier– absolutly loved every bit of this performance.

Beverly– I love her griity old-soul voice. gives me chills she does.

Vicci– this song was truly her. she made me ‘feel’ her singing. hands down (for me) the winner!
