Following Beyonce’s whirlwind jaunt to Europe where she headlined the Glastonbury Festival, sat down for an hour-long interview with Piers Morgan in London and performed on French programs Le Grand Journal and The X Factor, the “Best Thing I Never Had” diva is back on American soil to promote her newly-released album 4. She gave the Big Apple a little extra fierceness this morning when she hit up Central Park for a performance on Good Morning America. Head below to watch Bey in action. During her sit-down with GMA host Robin Roberts, Beyonce discussed the motivation for recording the songs on 4.

“It’s a bit of rock, jazz, a lot of live instrumentation,” Bey said. “I wanted to bring chords and bridges and melody back on the radio. And that was my goal. I figured after all of these years I earned the right to have artistic freedom and just make good music, and not try to make radio songs.”
