‘Glee’ Says Goodbye To Chord Overstreet, Welcome Back To Darren Criss

In case you haven’t noticed, McKinley High isn’t like regular high schools — full-time enrollment doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be sticking around. Glee‘s Sam Evans will be finding it a lot easier to cut class now that Chord Overstreet’s contract as a series regular on the Fox hit has not been renewed (though that doesn’t mean he won’t still pop up occasionally as a guest star). Not a very “Lucky” break for the New Directions blondie, is it? See who will be sticking around after the jump.

Of course, we already knew we’d be bidding much of the current cast adieu after the third season’s end, but we’re still a little surprised to see Sam go — and so, seemingly, is Overstreet. The brooding Macaulay Culkin-doppelganger ruefully tweeted: “well its been a good yr too bad its over, time for summer and starting fresh.”

But mourn not — Ryan Murphy is really only swapping one dreamy high school boy for two others. Yes — it’s about time the dapper Darren Criss was added to the cast as a series regular, considering that he may currently be the series’ biggest breakout star. Harry Shum, Jr. will also be upgraded to full-time cast member, while Ashley Fink remains a guest star.

Chord Overstreet will still appear in the upcoming Glee 3D movie. And after that? We’re sure this talented performer will have no trouble finding other non-Glee gigs, like cameos in his brother’s band’s music videos:

Is Hot Chelle Rae looking for an additional singer, perhaps?
