Pia Toscano Premieres Single “This Time” During Idols Live Tour Stop

Good things come to those who wait. But screw that — Pia Toscano decided to haul out her new single “This Time” ahead of its July 12 release, during the first American Idols Live! tour stop at West Valley City, Utah’s Maverik Center last night.  As Neon Limelight noted, the Season 10 contestant sounds a bit Beyonce-esque (or at least live, she does) on the Brian Kennedy-produced track. Listen for yourself below. We can’t say it was a bad move for Jimmy Iovine to sign Pia up to his label Interscope, despite the fact that she was eliminated much earlier than most had anticipated from the competition. After all, we had been rooting for her since the beginning. The 22-year-old aspiring diva from New York was even the early frontrunner on our Idol Power List until she got the boot.

Anyway, here she is below singing “This Time” live. We’ll give songwriter Ester Dean props for the “mad as hell and won’t take it no more” line. (Who knew she was such a fan of Network?)

But overall, we’re going to hold off on fully assessing the empowerment jam until the studio version is released next week.

Are you liking what you’ve heard of Pia’s new single “This Time” so far?
