“Show Me What I’m Looking For” hit-makers Carolina Liar are set to self-release sophomore album Wild Blessed Freedom on September 27. And as you might guess from the LP’s title and allusions to “running wild” and being “set free” in lead single “Drown” (available on iTunes July 12), the band is all about turning a new page with their new material, on which they worked with producers like Max Martin and Shellback. “Setting yourself free is the overall theme of the record,” frontman Chad Wolf tells Idolator. “It’s part of every song, from ‘Salvation’ to ‘Drown’ and even the cover art.” Carolina Liar’s vocalist Wolf continues, “It’s a reflection of the band’s current state of being; the music industry is changing really quickly and artists no longer have to depend on the big machine to get their music heard. So we’re ‘free’ in the sense that we’re self-releasing this album, which we’re really excited about.”

The band, which is comprised of Chad, Rickard Göransson, Johan Carlsson and Peter Carlsson, opted for vibrant, calming hues on the Wild Blessed Freedom cover rather than the silver and grey of their 2008 Atlantic Records debut LP Coming To Terms.

“Jason Noto at Morning Breath designed the cover. We worked with Hugh Lippe for photos,” the singer tells us. “We had several conversations about colors and emotion and how to translate that to a specific image. Jason wouldn’t let up until he felt he had it right. They really did an amazing job.”

Chad went on to discuss working with Max Martin and Shellback, two of the biggest producers in pop.

“Shellback is awesome because he has a vision for his songs from the start,” Wolf says. “He’s also super fast when it comes to getting the overall vibe of the track. As for Max, this is our second album with him and once again it was an amazing experience. We had a great time making the record, and we spent six months recording in Sweden and then six months in LA.”

And his favorite tracks on the forthcoming record? “Right now, ‘Beautiful People, ‘Miss America’ and ‘Salvation’ are our favorites,” Wolf says. “Can’t wait for you to hear ‘em.”

Carolina Liar, currently in the planning stages for an upcoming tour, will be hitting up Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles for a live gig on July 16.
