‘Glee’ Nabs Some Emmy Nominations (And A Few Snubs)

With Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer definitely exiting Glee after next season, they’re running out of chances to win awards for their breakout roles on the series. Of course, Colfer already nabbed one Emmy nod for his groundbreaking portrayal of gay teen Kurt Hummel last year (and won a Golden Globe), while Jane Lynch took a statue home for her hilarious turn as the nefarious Sue Sylvester. They’re both nominated again. But there was at least one major snub for the New Directions team when noms were announced this morning, signaling that 2011’s ceremony might be slightly less Glee-ful than last year’s. Once again, Glee is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series — an award it surrendered to Modern Family last year. The show is also hogging the Guest Actress in a Comedy category with three nominations: for Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Chenowith, and Dot-Marie Jones as Coach Beiste.

In less happy news, Matthew Morrison didn’t make the cut this year, and we wouldn’t have been surprised to see a nomination for Darren Criss, either. Alas, no. But most surprisingly, Lea Michele did not receive a nod for her performance as Rachel Barry, probably due to stiff competition in her category (she was up against heavy hitters like Tina Fey, Laura Linney, Edie Falco, and Amy Poehler, along with Mike & Molly‘s Melissa McCarthy).

After next season, we suppose the Fox hit will get a whole new crop of fresh faces that we’ll hopefully see up at the podium someday. Until then, we have one more Glee-related reason to look forward to this year’s Emmys — Jane Lynch will host the telecast on September 18! (Hopefully in character.)
