Leona Lewis Responds To “Collide” Song Theft Allegations

Leona Lewis’s new single “Collide” premiered with a crash as well as a bang — almost as quickly as the tune debuted on British radio, UK label Ministry of Sound claimed that The X Factor winner’s song ripped off the beat of Avicci dance track “Penguin”. Lewis is finally responding to these allegations — read on for her explanation of the situation:

“With regards to my song, avicii was aware & agreeing publishing splits for himself and his manager,” Lewis tweeted today. “When avicii sent his track out to have a song written over it I totally fell in love with this version and i think he’s super talented.”

That’s all (for now). However, Tim Bergling of Avicci has a different story. On the day “Collide” premiered online, he tweeted, “To answer everyone, the first time i heard leona lewis collide was today. I didnt produce it and neither me or my manager could approve it.”

“To be clear im not taking credit for the melody (everything was cleared with penguin cafe orchestra and simon jeffes who wrote the song)… Im just upset for someone taking credit of our idea before i had a chance to release it. And for the time and effort that has been put into this by my manager and label.”

Yesterday he concluded with this statement: “And again to everyone who keeps asking about the leona lewis collide thing – we will come out with the full story from our perspective soon!”
