Katy Perry, Adele And Kanye West Lead The MTV VMA Nominations

2011 will go down as the year MTV turned its back on popularity in favor of credibility. Superstars like Britney Spears and Lady Gaga were generally overlooked, while upcoming acts like Tyler, The Creator and Manchester Orchestra were recognized. Of course, the big names nabbed their fair share of nominations, too — Katy Perry scored 9 noms for four different Teenage Dream videos, with “Firework” nabbing a nom for Video OF The Year. Her “ET” buddy Kanye West scored six for his “All Of The Lights” and “Power” videos. Meanwhile, chart-topping sensation Adele picked up seven noms just for “Rolling In The Deep”. Check out all the major nominations below!

Monsters and Beyonce stans are already expressing their anger at the nominations on Twitter. Their favorites could only manage 3 nominations each, while Britney Spears, once a VMA Video Of The Year winner for “Piece Of Me”, recieved only two nods. However, spare a thought for Rihanna and her sure-to-be depressed navy — RiRi’s videos were overlooked entirely (though she is featured on Kanye’s “All Of The Lights”).
