M.I.A. posted an unreleased demo on Soundcloud last night in memory of Amy Winehouse. The boundary-pushing pop experimentalist left a note saying the track is “dedicated to all my friends that died at 27”. (A reference to Amy joining the ill-fated 27 club). She then clarified via Twitter that the song was recorded prior to her New Year’s Eve mixtape but never released: “i recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out. its a unfinished demo. R.I.P A.M.Y.” While it’s clearly an unfinished work, “27” has a respectful tone and includes the lyric “all rock stars go to heaven”. Listen to the track below and let us know what you think of M.I.A.’s tribute.
