Holy Ghost! Get Animated For Adult Swim “Some Children” Video

When we talked to our Popping Up-featured pals Holy Ghost! in the spring about their song “Some Children,” Alex Frankel from the duo enlightened us on how they got blue-eyed soul legend Michael McDonald on board for a collaboration (and it doesn’t sound that difficult!). Head below to watch Adult Swim’s short video for the electro-pop jam and find out just how the NYC pair hooked up with Michael. “First you have to wine him up properly — he prefers a full-bodied red, Loire Valley if possible,” Frankel pointed out to us when speaking of Michael McDonald. “Then it’s steak and a show, of course. Then you kinda just dare him to at the end of the night, like a joke, and hit record.”

Meanwhile, Adam Fuchs, brother of late The Juan MacLean drummer Jerry Fuchs, explains the concept for the “Some Children” video, which he designed.

“[Nick and Alex of Holy Ghost!] have been talking about doing an animated video for a while now. When I first heard the beginning of ‘Some Children’ I knew right away I wanted to do imagery going in and out of clouds. The song has a great ‘holy’ feel to it, and it felt right to go in that direction. I really wanted to play off of Michael McDonald’s voice and have an image that would represent him as God, but also not be taken so literally. The Adult Swim thing came about, because Nick and Alex are big fans, and wanted to be involved in some way. I approached my bros at Adult Swim with the concept I had, and they loved it.”

Here’s the minute-and-14-second-long clip:
