Geri Halliwell Spicing Up New Album

Things appeared to quiet down with Geri Halliwell following the Spice Girls’ reunion and subsequent tour four years ago. But lest you think the ginger-haired pop vamp was merely content with designing (and modeling) her own line of swimwear and evening dress wear, UK paper the Mirror quotes Geri commenting on her upcoming solo album. “The album’s pretty much finished,” Halliwell told the publication. “I’m not sure on dates yet and I won’t tell you what it sounds like, because I’d prefer to let the songs speak for themselves. But it’ll be great to be back where I belong, on stage. It won’t be long.”

Sounds spicy — and promising, for those hoping for a 2011 release. Between 1999 and 2005, Geri served up three solo albums following her initial departure from the Spice Girls in 1998 (only one of which, Schizophonic, saw the light of day here in the States). She later joined back up with her four bandmates for their 2007 reunion.

Geri also racked up a slew of hit singles on the UK charts, including four consecutive #1s with “Mi Chico Latino,” “Lift Me Up,” “Bag It Up” and her cover of “It’s Raining Men” from the Bridget Jones’s Diary soundtrack.

Meanwhile, those feeling a bit impatient between now and the time Geri’s fourth LP arrives can tide themselves over with The Sea (out September 4), the fifth solo album from fellow Spice Girls member Melanie C.
