No Doubt Wrote A Song For Your Prom

Over the past year, No Doubt has been dutifully working on their Rock Steady follow-up (and their first new release in a decade), recording new tunes at Mix Suite Studio in Santa Monica. Though they still don’t have a definitive track list, a release date or a title for their sixth studio LP, the Orange County group was able to provide just a few album and song spoilers to British magazine Q. Hey, it’s something! Hop below for details.

The band has yet to finish the album, but there are a few songs that are in the can. “One More Summer” is described as a “beat-driven electro-pop track with a soaring chorus”, “Settle Down” is a “raucous dancehall number”, and “Dreaming The Same Dream” is what Stefani calls “a prom song”. Other tracks include “Easy” and “Undercover”.

Other known tid-bits: the band produced a song with Major Lazer (the fellas whose song “Pon De Floor” is sampled in Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls)”), and boasts one major musical guest, though they aren’t saying who quite yet.

As far as the album as a whole, there’s no overarching theme or concept. “We wish were good enough to craft it and have a vision, but our songwriting process is sort of desperate,” Stefani says. “We’re just praying that something comes out.”

“We don’t even need to be making this record,” Gwen says. “We just wanted to make it because of the process of writing songs, recording them and touring them around the world — it just feels right.”

It feels right to us, too. And we expect “Dreaming The Same Dream” to be the number one song the Class of 2012 slow-dances to at their prom.
