Review Revue: Maroon 5 And Christina Aguilera’s “Moves Like Jagger” Video
Like a rolling stone, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s “Moves Like Jagger” music video came barreling over the Internet last night with a healthy hip shake and some rock-star strut. So does the clip really live up to its title? Old footage of Mick Jagger is edited in, so our two singers/Voice coaches — M5 frontman Adam Levine and Xtina — had their work cut out for them. See what the World Wide Web at large had to say about the vintage-looking vid below!
:: Entertainment Weekly‘s Music Mix was also impressed: “When Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera dropped their collaborative single ‘Moves Like Jagger’ last month, did anybody doubt that the video would feature a parade of people shaking, strutting, and dancing like the legendary Rolling Stones frontman? That’s exactly what the team delivered in the clip that premiered last night.”
:: Likewise, yours truly noted on Chart Rigger, “Even in the parts where it looks like they’re together, you can’t see Aguilera’s face. Maybe they hired a Christina impersonator too?”
:: Rolling Stone thought there was only one person who truly has moves like Jagger: “Levine, Aguilera and the assortment of models on hand for the shoot certainly have their charms, but their intense enthusiasm only serves to highlight the natural charisma of the Rolling Stones frontman. Watching him in action just for a few seconds at a time, it becomes obvious why Maroon 5 would write a disco-pop tune about aspiring to that level of confidence and grace.”
:: Direct Lyrics, however, thought the moves were all wrong: “Hmm, the concept was cool – I read Adam and director Jonas Ackerlund even got Mick’s endorsement, who gave them access to a bunch of exclusive old footage, but being honest the music video was quite boring on most parts and it felt really cheap.”
:: Neon Limelight didn’t mind the timing, though: “…just as we assumed from the uber-sexy photos from the set, the video is a steaming pile of hotness.”
:: Instinct Magazine got more to the point: “The fun nostalgic video, as we had hoped, features plenty of shirtless Adam Levine!”
