Katy Perry really is living the (teenage) dream. With “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” topping Billboard‘s Hot 100, the candy-coated pop star is now officially the first woman to score five #1 singles off the same album, tying only with Michael Jackson. And Perry knows just how big a deal that is. Read her exclusive statement to Billboard about hitting her new record after the jump.

“Hitting No. 1 is always a great moment, but when it turns into a small piece of history, you’re reminded of how many millions of people are connected to each other by even one tiny event,” she says. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. Ever since I was 9 years old, singing into my hairbrush, I’ve dreamed very big dreams, but today is bigger than my dreams. What a nice first birthday present for Teenage Dream!”

She also gave a more informal statement via Twitter: “What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song ‘LAST FRIDAY NIGHT’ is officially #1 & made HISTORY! & u know, I couldn’t have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG… so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu.”

Katy’s sophomore album Teenage Dream was released almost a year ago — August 24 2010. In that time, not only did every released single off the album top the Hot 100, but she became the first artist in history to have a song in the Top 10 for 52 consecutive weeks. The LP was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

Good luck trying to top yourself with your third album, Katy!
