As we know, Lady Gaga’s “You And I” music video was supposed to premiere on MTV Thursday evening, but leaked online two days beforehand. However, that didn’t stop Mother Monster from heading in to the network’s Times Square studios to make a special announcement about the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards. Head below to watch Gaga thrill her little monsters with both her big news and a brand new VMAs promo clip. MTV’s Sway stood beside Gaga, who chose to let her fans gathered outside reveal the big news via a banner that read “Gaga To Open VMAs!!”

Fans of the performer will recall that she announced the name of her then-forthcoming 2011 album Born This Way at last year’s awards gig — a night that saw Gaga take home eight moon men, including ones for Best Female Video, Pop Video of the Year, and the top prize, Video of the Year. (They’ll also remember her famous meat dress!)

“It means the world to me. I’m just so happy, ” Gaga told Sway when describing her thoughts about opening this year’s VMAs. “I’m just feel really blessed every day.”

Additionally, Lady Gaga’s new promo spot for the MTV event was unveiled yesterday. A set of black-and-white, jazzy clips featuring the singer (sans bra) were revealed earlier this week. But this latest video — which features a mashup of the Born This Way tracks “Government Hooker” and “Heavy Metal Lover” —  is a much bloodier affair.

Now we finally know what all this secret imagery was intended for!
