Sistar Top Inaugural ‘Billboard’ K-Pop Hot 100 Chart With “So Cool”

Aug 25th, 2011 // 4 Comments

Even though Sistar missed out on making our Rise Of K-Pop: 10 Must-Hear Bands feature last week, the South Korean quartet can dry their tears and rest easy knowing they’re currently #1 on the very first K-Pop Hot 100, which Billboard launched today. The chart was launched in conjunction with Billboard Korea, the publication noted, and is based “on digital sales via leading websites as well as downloads from mobile service sites using an industry-standard formula and the most credible music data sources within Korea.”

In other words, so cool! Sistar consists of Hyorin, Bora, Soyu & Dasom, and their #1 single on the new chart also serves as the bouncy, dance-pop title track to their first full-length album. The video itself has garnered over 2.1 million views in the past two weeks.

So here — have a watch and up your own cool factor a notch.

I still couldn’t tell any of them apart from the next k-group.

Then you obviously don’t know much about K-Pop.

And you could say the same for not telling a Britney from a Christina or a NSync from a Backstreet Boys or a Beyonce from an Ashanti.

  3. I’m so glad about this chart! It’ll be cool to read those things in english from a reliable source =)

OBVIOUSLY K-pop will never be huge in US or anything. This chart if anything just shows it’s importance and impact in the world. It’s a very influent type of music right now even tho it’s not yet a big market.

having been a fan of ‘other’ language music for many years this is pretty standard fare for K-Pop, however, I do love a song that mixes languages like this one does (and if you have never listened or seen a K-Pop or J-Pop group before the hand movements and poses mean what they are singing).

I could have done away with the multiple times they mentioned the name of the group though.
