For all you Fooloose purists who have been up in arms about the 2011 remake of the 80s Kevin Bacon dance flick and its corresponding soundtrack, some good news: Blake Shelton’s cover of the Kenny Loggins title track does nothing to tarnish — or differentiate from — the original. The Voice coach has a bit deeper voice than Loggins, and the whole production is a bit more country jamboree, but it’s basically the same song. Listen below.

And here’s Shelton’s karaoke-esque take:

Shelton rells The Boot about his process of recording the famous song. “There are two ways to bring back a song: one is to try to make it your own, and in this instance, you have to remove yourself from it and step into the role of what’s best for the movie and that particular scene. There’s really only one way to approach it when you think of it that way: a fun, uptempo, catchy version just like Kenny Loggins did.”
