Katy Perry Announces Sixth ‘Teenage Dream’ Single

Sep 14th, 2011 // 12 Comments

You’d think after making Hot 100 history and winning big at the VMAs, Katy Perry would put a sparkly bow on Teenage Dream and refocus her attention on a new album. Wrong! Perry is squeezing out as many singles from her sophomore album as possible, as Billboard reports that she plans to release the midtempo ballad “The One That Got Away” as her sixth single. Listen to it below.

If the tune ends up topping the charts like the rest of her singles, Katy would then have more #1′s from the same album than Michael Jackson – or anyone else, for that matter. But that’s not the reason they’re releasing the song to radio.

“If it goes to No. 1, that would be great,” said Greg Thompson, of EMI Music/Capitol Records EVP/marketing and promotion. “If not, we still have a Katy song on the radio in fourth quarter.”

Expect “One” to get a radio edit “touch-up” and a video.

It won’t be number one…if she wanted a shot with a sixth number 1 she should have done Hummingbird Heartbeat. Wrong choice. Wish she would have done that and or just left with a bang of five singles…but they are going to spoil it with this song…there’s nothing special with it and rather boring.

If she really wanted another #1 single, Katy should have went with “Peacock.”

eewww!!! this single (is ok). NO WAY it is a #1 single, she should’ve chosen Not Like the Movies (now that’s a #1 single)!!! Now that Adele released a piano only ballad, she shoul’ve done the same thing with this song!!!

In the history of music there was no worst album and more (number 1) singles

SCARY WHERE MUSIC BUSINESS S GONE

Wasn’t expecting this as the next single choice… I was expecting Hummingbird Heartbeat but maybe she’ll save that hopefully last single for Spring…! Not Like The Movies could have possibly became #1. The One That Got Away…. She needs to perform it somewhere where it could get a lot of attention… Possibly at the AMAs? Anyway, good luck Katy Perry!

Her people have to stained the perfect record don’t they.

let’s face it, it won’t get no.1 with all the efforts she made for tgif (good and bad): the video, the remix, the rebecca black, it still struggled to reached no.1, so this significantly weaker, similar sounding (teenage dream, anyone?) single will be a long shot to say the best.

PS, what does that ”radio in fourth quarter” mean? nobody ever says every quarter must have katy on the airwaves…

I was hoping “The One That Got Away ” would be the 6th single. It would be great for
it to reach #1. If it does maybe a 7th single. (maybe “Pearl” another message song like “Firework”). Yes, It has a similar theme to “Teenage Dream” another great song. The song reminds me a little of Madonna’s ‘True Blue” Sort of a ’50′s vibe. I think it is one of the strongest songs left on the album and it has
always been one of my favorites. Good Luck Katy!! The album is just great.
