Watch The Trailer For Madonna’s Film ‘W.E.’

Since Madonna’s 2012 tour itinerary turned out to be a fake (sigh — it was too good to be true), we’ll have to get our Madonna fix another way — by watching the trailer to her sophomore directorial effort, W.E. Madonna doesn’t appear in the film, but we know you’re curious about what the Material Girl has been working on the past year, even if it isn’t music-related. Jump below to watch the trailer.

For those wondering what the heck this movie is about, here ya go (via Madonnarama):

W.E., directed by Madonna and co-written with her friend Alek Keshishian (who directed Truth or Dare), focuses on two love stories: that of Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough) and Britain’s King Edward VIII (James D’Arcy), who gave up the throne to marry the twice-divorced American, and that of a contemporary New Yorker named Wally (Abbie Cornish), who falls for a security guard at Sotheby’s and who identifies with that other, most sensational love affair of the 20th century. After Edward abdicated, in 1936, he became the Duke of Windsor. As his wife, Wallis automatically became a duchess, but she was denied the title Her Royal Highness.

Basically — did you see Best Picture winner The King’s Speech? Remember Guy Pearce’s character, the lousy brother of Colin Firth’s Prince Albert-turned-King George IV? W.E. is basically what would happen if we veered off into his story instead of sticking around Colin and Geoffrey Rush’s plot.

The film is expected to be released in theaters this December. The trailer has us captivated, but unfortunately we’re already well aware that ever since the film’s Venice Film Festival premiere, thre have been far more negative reviews than positive ones. It’s okay, Madonna, just keep telling yourself this.
