Rihanna Gets High And Really Low In “We Found Love” Video

The hopeless place Rihanna speaks of in her new Calvin Harris-featuring single “We Found Love” could refer to Northern Ireland, where the video was shot. Then again, the hopeless place could be RiRi’s drug-fueled state of mind, as the Barbadian pop star gives in to her indulges – be they shoplifting, pills or sex – with her significant other in her poignant new clip.

The Melina Matsoukas-directed video begins with a voiceover: “It’s like you’re screaming but no one can hear. You almost feel ashamed that someone could that be that important, that without them you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless like nothing can save you. And when it’s over and it’s gone, you almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back so you could have the good.”

As the clip goes on, Rihanna and her lover – who we can’t help but notice looks eerily like Chris Brown – wander around Northern Ireland, engaging in unruly behavior: dancing on tables, smoking almost a pack of cigarettes at once, swiping items at a convenience store, tattooing one another. It’s heavily inferred that RiRi and her suitor are abusing drugs to find a state of euphoria they can’t get without it. Eventually, it catches up with them.

Rihanna – “We Found Love”

Interesting that this video comes out the day following the premiere of Britney Spears’ “Criminal” video, as that clip showed two people in love knowingly engaging in dangerous and illegal activities. However, Rihanna and her on-screen boyfriend’s adventures in debauchery don’t seem to be hurting anyone — except themselves.
