Coldplay and Kelly Clarkson each released their fifth studio albums this week — Mylo Xyloto and Stronger, respectively — though Clarkson has been stuck in the runner-up position on iTunes all week, behind the UK band. Billboard is predicting an easy win for the Chris Martin-fronted act on next week’s Top 200 chart, as Mylo Xyloto is on track to sell upwards of 450,000 copies. That’s a bit of a drop for Coldplay, whose previous album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends barreled out of the gate with 721,000 copies sold in 2008. Still, Billboard notes that Mylo Xyloto could wind up having the third best opening week for an album in 2011, behind Lady Gaga’s Born This Way (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV (964,000).

Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger is looking to enter the Top 200 just behind Coldplay, at #2, with about 150,000 sold. The American Idol winner’s previous LP All I Ever Wanted started at #1 in 2009, with 255,000 copies sold in its first week.
