Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker Remix”: At Your Request

Welcome back to our daily musical factoid fiesta, known as At Your Request. Our episode today focuses on an old-school track that — even 11 years after its release — still manages to keep us coming back incessantly. Below, watch us break down a beloved Mariah Carey remix that hit the airwaves long before Monroe and Moroccan were even a glimmer in their mother’s eye.

A big thanks to @ANTHONYc for his request of Mariah’s 1999 hit “Heartbreaker (Remix)” which features rhymes from Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg and Da Brat. The track is an alternate to MC’s lead single off of her seventh studio album Rainbow. The newly-named Jenny Brand Ambassador wrote the album in Capri over a three-month stretch during the spring of ’99 following her divorce from then-husband (as well as record label boss) Tommy Mottola. (Is it any wonder the Grammy winner’s first song out of the gate was about a broken heart?)

Check back in tomorrow for another musical interlude, hand-selected by you! And while we get cracking on our rendition of Mariah and Justin Bieber’s “All I Want For Christmas” for our Idolator holiday party, get in on the requesting action by sending us your song demands via tweet (#AtYourRequest), Facebook or simply comment below.

Be sure to include the name of the tune, the artist and a note about why you dig it.
