Miley Cyrus Shows Her Support For Occupy Wall Street In New Video

You could argue that Miley Cyrus, one of the wealthiest, most successful teen pop stars of the last decade, is part of the 1%, but like Kanye, her bank account doesn’t automatically decide her affiliations. After previously championing gay rights on her Twitter feed (and on her body), the 19-year-old liberal pop star uploaded a video supporting the Occupy Wall Street movement over the weekend. “This is Dedicated to the thousands of people who are standing up for what they believe in,” writes Cyrus at the beginning of the clip, featuring a montage of both inspiring and unsettling footage of the Occupy protests, all set to the tune of a remix of Miley’s “Liberty Walk”. Watch below.

We’re assuming Miley hopes that her political statement takes some of the attention away from the fact she admitted to the world (or rather, to the guests of her private birthday party, which included one friend with a camera phone and a lack of loyalty) that she’s a “huge stoner”.

Apparently, Miley may not be as big a fan of la ganja as that video might suggest: “Let me make something very clear,” tweeted Miley’s friend Kelly Osbourne. “After @MileyCyrus salvia incident we started calling her bob miley as a JOKE! the cake was also A JOKE! it makes me sick that @MileyCyrus so called ‘friends’ would sell her out and lead people 2 believe she is someone that she is not!”

Though she may not actually be a pothead, what Miley Cyrus definitely is is an opinionated, politically-minded young woman who isn’t afraid of possibly alienating a large portion of her fan base by expressing her views. Can’t be tamed, indeed!
