A biopic on hit-making ’90s R&B trio TLC will be creeping across the small screen at some point, reports The Hollywood Reporter. VH1 is producing a series of music-related telefilms, including one on Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The script, it’s noted, is being written by Kate Lanier, who penned Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It and — wait for it — Glitter. According to the Reporter, T-Boz and Chilli will act as consultants and executive producers on the project. And if ever there was an act in recent memory that has a treasure trove of drama to mine from, it’s TLC!

During the ’90s, Lopes and her onetime NFL boyfriend Andre Rison had a stormy relationship that was marred by assault and arson charges, as well as Lopes’ alleged alcoholism. She was later killed in an automobile accident in April 2002.

In 1995, at the height of the group’s success and on the heels of their multi-Platinum album CrazySexyCool, TLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It was reported recently that T-Boz filed for bankruptcy protection twice this year, as well.

“We’re honored to collaborate with Chilli, Tionne and [producer] Bill Diggins in sharing their own personal story and TLC’s record-breaking legacy with VH1 viewers,” said Jeff Olde, executive vice president ofp original programming and production at VH1.

Most recently, the surviving members of TLC performed on the American Idol finale in May.
