Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”: At Your Request

Welcome back to our final week of our video project, At Your Request. The holidays are officially in full swing, and is there any music that provides a better soundtrack to decking the halls, trimming the tree or dusting off the old menorah than that of Mariah Carey? Thanks to today’s fabulous requester, Mimi is the focus of our show once again. Below, watch as we breakdown a modern Christmas classic.

Today’s request of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” comes by way of @Mari_Maud who called Mariah the “Queen Of Christmas” — and she’s not exaggerating. This 1994 track took the new Jenny spokeswoman from pop star to full-blown entertainer — exactly the way her then label, Columbia Records, intended. The song has been warming hearts over the holidays for 17 years, becoming the 19th highest digital download ever of songs recorded prior to 2000. Not only has the perennial favorite been given the Justin Bieber “Superfestive” treatment, the Grammy winner has remixed the song twice herself!

We’ll catch you tomorrow with another musical installment of AYR. In the meantime, don’t be a Scrooge! Tweet us your song requests (holiday-themed or otherwise) or drop us a line on Facebook. Now if you’ll excuse us, these Christmas cookies aren’t going to frost themselves.
